Lower East Side bespoke hat purveyors Still Life announce a new initiative sure to change the face of downtown design. Known for one-of-a-kind, handmade and custom hats, Still Life launches manufacturing capabilities that will be realized with Still Life Reserve, a full-service factory with hand blocking, MIdtown Manhattan.
Launched in 2003, Still Life is internationally known for handcrafted hats custom made with the finest materials. Still Life is the product of the singular vision of owner and chief designer Frenel Morris. A New Jersey native, Morris fuels the line with his passion for bespoke millinery.
In a landscape dominated by mass-produced clothing and accessories, Still Life Reserve is unique in offering blocking services to other designers, as well as allowing Morris to continue designing each item by hand, with a bespoke sensibility. Still Life recently acquired heirloom equipment from Manny’s Millinery, for decades the biggest and most successful millinery in New York City, which closed with the retirement of owner Howard Reinleb. This largely discontinued and custom equipment has made it possible for Still Life to open its own factory, with the most sophisticated machinery in New York, and possibly the entire millinery industry. Morris has also recently aqcuired the nation’s largest archive of vintage hat blocks (Peter & Irving collection, for those who know). which is now being used in production for various high-end design houses.
